After playing 335 games on Polish tournaments, I finally made it to the top100, woohoo! Here you can have a look at it (I’m currently 73rd). Nothing to be proud of, really, but it’s nice to see that there’s been some progress since I started playing.
The next goal is to reach rank 130. That’s enough about me, let’s write something about Scrabble.
Every year in the middle of December ~100 people forget about their work, school, responsibilities and troubles. They meet in Warsaw to play LeMans - a tournament lasting 24 hours without a break. Take a look here for some photos nicely commented (well… commented in Polish, of course). We started at noon on Saturday. For the first 7 or 8 hours it feels just like on regular tournament. After 9p.m. my body felt a bit tired and it stayed like that till 7 or 8 in the morning (with a little help from energy drinks and sweets). Then the real crisis came and the body started to scream I NEED SOME REST. I had to do something as it screamed so loudly that it started to interrupt my brain. That was the moment at which I appreciated the fact that I don’t drink coffee (I’ve drunk no more than 20 in my entire life): I drank one and almost immediately felt awaken. It ended at noon on Sunday but I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all - I was so happy that I’d played so well.
The tournament itself is very special: it connects people maybe even more than the usual ones - 7 rounds on Saturday and 5 on Sunday, and an alcohol-party (actually an ALCOHOL-party) - as the whole situation is a bit extreme. Extreme scrabble players we are, hahaha!
